Bringing innovative Asian and Chinese flavours to Bicester Village, Shan Shui makes for the perfect pit-stop as part of a day’s shopping and takes inspiration from 1920s Shanghai.
Very much in sync with the luxurious feel of the village, Shan Shui’s décor is modern with references to the glittering era at the heart of the restaurant throughout. A palette of pinks and blues add an art-deco vibe to space and authentic Asian works adorn the walls creating a gallery-like feel.
First opened back in August 2018, Shan Shui has quickly become a favoured fixture on Bicester’s dining scene and serves a menu of Chinese dishes and Southeast Asian cuisine using locally sourced ingredients.
Perfect for sharing, the menu is easily navigated and split between a range of small starters and dim sum with larger plates for mains and salads. Perhaps a sign of the restaurant, the Dim Sum here includes delectable chicken and prawn siu mai and bite-sized puffs of vegetables stylishly presented in bamboo baskets very fitting of the surroundings.
Contemporary dishes of meat and seafood feature across the fare on offer with favourites ranging from wok-fried dishes to delectable meat and fish. The Nasi goreng istimewa is a particular highlight in the form of Indonesian shrimp fried rice and chicken stay with chilli. Also popular is Shan Shui’s Pan-fried sea bass fillet, cooked to perfection it comes served with a Thai chilli sauce and certainly hits the sport amongst a spot of shopping.
